Treatment of Dairy Wastewater by Electrocoagulation using Iron Filings Electrodes

This study investigated the treatment of dairy wastewater using electrocoagulation method with iron filings as electrodes. The dealt real samples collected from local factory for products in Baghdad. Response Surface Methodology (RSM) was used to optimize five experimental variables at six levels each variable, estimating chemical oxygen demand (COD) removal efficiency. These were distance between electrodes, detention time, dosage NaCl electrolyte, initial COD concentration, and current density. RSM direct complex interaction effects parameters estimate optimum values. respective value 1 cm (60 – 120) min 250 mg NaCl/L added, C0/6 = 5,775 COD/L 7.884 - 8.077 mA/cm2 provided. At parameter values, efficiency 73.4%. Meanwhile, also performed efficiency nitrogen (N) phosphate (P) due their on aquatic life systems. phosphorus 98.0% 80.3%, respectively. Due its environment comply legislations, treating these wastewaters eco-friendly processes highly recommended taking consideration economic feasibility, flexibility easiness operate. In addition, proved that high surface area played a crucial role removing process.
